AN IMPORTANT HAND-WRITTEN LETTER FROM MONTGOMERY TO DEMPSEY TOGETHER WITH ACCOMPANYING SIGNAL FROM EISENHOWER,
Montgomery's letter dated 13/07/44 reads, "I have great pleasure in sending on to you the attached signal from General Eisenhower. The Second Army is now well into its stride and is going to make a name for itself that will live in history. [signed] B.L. Montgomery, General, C-in-C Allied Armies in France", Eisenhower's signal is classed 'Most Immediate' and reads, "From Eisenhower for General Montgomery. Please convey to General Dempsey my great admiration for the accomplishments of the Second Army. In becoming masters of Caen and in their constant drive against the German they are contributing markedly to the final victory. I am proud of them. Signed Eisenhower"
